Functionality forged by history
The original commando rucksack was highly coveted for its higher capacity and sturdy frame, making it ideal for carrying heavy loads during long marches. Crafted from waterproof canvas, it became a staple not only for Commandos but also for Paratroopers, Special Air and Boat Services, including the SOE during WWII. Its influence extended to the Norwegians and Swedes, who adopted a similar design for their packs for years to come.
Traditional Materials
At Rough Bounds, we have carefully selected environmentally friendly waxed cotton sourced from Scotland.
As part of our commitment to Great British manufacturing, all bags are proudly made in the UK using a light waxed, weather-resistant cotton, durable cotton webbing, and British vegetable tanned leather.
The fabric is cut by hand using scissors and stitched together by skilled machinists.
This meticulous attention to detail ensures the longevity of our bags, while maintaining their distinctive vintage look, feel, and style.
